He Kicks; He Scores

1Co 1:18 – For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

It seems Kathy Holmgren’s decision to minister in Africa, in lieu of watching her husband compete in the Super Bowl on Sunday, has caused the liberal media and unsaved fans to question the Ref’s decision, screaming as if there should have been a flag on His play. Instead of focusing on the negative unsaved media, here’s a refreshing piece from Covenant News about people supporting Mrs. Holgren’s commitment. (Thanks for sending this Dad!)

Galatians 1:10 For am I now trying to win the favor of people, or God? Or am I striving to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ. 11 Now I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel preached by me is not based on a human point of view.

Earth unique

Astronomers have tended to assume that there is nothing special about our place in the cosmos, especially during the last decade, when over 100 extrasolar planets have been discovered…..But a recent study suggests we could be alone in the universe after all.

Wasn’t always a mad, bad world

Prions, the infectious agents responsible for Mad Cow Disease, are also known for causing similar degenerative diseases in other animals and people….

Merry Christmas

Isaiah 45:23 By Myself I have sworn;
Truth has gone from My mouth,
a word that will not be revoked:
Every knee will bow to Me,
every tongue will swear allegiance.

Note to self: Develop a Christmas project using one of these machine embroidery designs.

I do believe I’ll present one to one my son’s doctors who told me she felt that “any parent who deprived their child of the joy and wonder of Santa and all that he represented for peace, joy, hope, and the beauty of the season, was cruel”.
So far, I’ve found two bowing-down-to-Christ Santas located at http://www.irenesdesigns.net/set67christmas2003.htm and http://www.threadsketches.net/nat.html

The Star of Bethlehem

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring – not even Santa Claus. Hah! This one has potential. In the meantime, here’s a fascinating article on the astronomy behind the Star of Bethlehem.

Wretches & Paupers

Rejoice in Him!

When I was fourteen, family friends lost their fourteen-year-old daughter to a brain aneurysm which silently removed her from the world while she slept. Hers was the first funeral I was allowed to attend.

The parents flanked the white satin-lined coffin where she lay, her fingers gracefully clasping a small cross-adorned Bible to her chest. They greeted each approaching mourner with a warm smile and handshake, their overall demeanor better suited to that of hosting a holiday dinner party.

God Did It

When life progresses in a pleasing direction, human nature (the flesh, in Biblical terms) is quick to take credit. There’s a sense that those things which are blessings were obtained through the sweat of the brow, burning candles at both ends, deferring gratification, working like a dog….any number of reasons are given for “making it”, for being “lucky” or “hitting it big”. When things don’t go so well, it is a rare person who doesn’t point the finger elsewhere, and often, especially when there’s a natural disaster (like Katrina or last winter’s Tsunami), God gets the bulk of the blame.

John Piper, Head Pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis has something to say to those who ask God to be accountible to them for His actions. And Katrina, have no doubt, was of His hands.

Preaching Creation

Bowing down to our Lord as Creator isn’t just an issue, a problem, for the taunting, mocking, religion of evolution. Bowing down to the Lord as Creator is an issue within the body of the church. Here’s Doug Wilson’s latest Credenda Agenda article on “Preaching Creation”, calling the church to accountability…
