Don't Sorrow...

I was lost in beauty, photographing Mountain Laurel surrounding our property, when I looked over to see my darling Sarah. I stole a moment, capturing her deep in sorrow, as she bent over a little stone-marked grave. Beau, attached to the end of a 25-foot Flexi-Lead, saw her at the same moment, running to her, encircling her with the leash.

“Stop, Beau”, she whispered through tears. She told him about finding Molly, lying dead on the bottom of the cage. Beau didn’t care. He sniffed at the ground, then suddenly spun into puppy-motion, charging at Sarah, giving her a “bump” with his head, its intent meaning, “get up…let’s play”.

She tried to tell Beau about her sorrow and deep-grieving she felt, missing Molly. Beau turned towards her again, appearing to listen. But yet again, his puppy-energy got the better of him, as he jumped at her, kissing her face. “Stop, Beau!”, she began to laugh. Catching herself, not ready to give up on sorrow, she dusted herself off, telling Beau he ought not to be so rough with when she was trying to pray.

He responded by giving her another push. This time, her laughter was full and bright, sadness banished. “Okay, you, I’m going to get you now!”, she play-threatened, grabbing the Flexi-lead out of my hand in one running leap, chasing Beau in search of his favorite toy.

Beau, without words, encouraged her back into the present – into today – into loving what you have……….

Psalm 107:1 “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

  1. Thanks for such an important reminder. I’ll remember this the next time I’m feeling cross with my bad cat, Lincoln, for pestering me when I’m too busy to play.
