Egg of Power

Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. Romans 8:5

oval office Presidents are given a $100,000 budget to decorate and personalize the Oval Office, a room recognized throughout the world as the place from which policies and decisions are made. Realtors, film-makers and politicians recognize the importance of “staging” – wall color, carpeting, or object d’art – creating an environment reflecting its occupant’s values.

Former President Bush’s wife, Laura, at his request, designed a yellow sunburst rug conveying “optimism”. Other items in Bush’s office are American historically-significant pieces, some permanently displayed, giving a sense of continuity from one office-holder to another that the “office” of the president is cumulative: a Resolute desk brought by Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880, an Einsenhower bust, and an 18th century bronze horse sculpture by Frederic Remington.

Bush contributed an untitled 19th-century painting of a hatless cowboy on horseback, by W.H.D. Koerner, naming it, “A Charge To Keep I Have”, after the Charles Wesley hymn.

A charge to keep I have,
a God to glorify,
a never-dying soul to save,
and fit it for the sky.

To serve the present age,
my calling to fulfill;
O may it all my powers engage
to do my Master’s will!

Arm me with jealous care,
as in thy sight to live,
and oh, thy servant, Lord,
prepare a strict account to give!

Help me to watch and pray,
and on thyself rely,
assured, if I my trust betray,
I shall forever die.

This beautiful hymn, modeled after Matthew 25:23, presents precepts of the Christian faith on which President Bush stood:

  • who is to receive the glory,
  • the importance of having a servant’s heart,
  • recognizing our total and complete dependence upon His grace, and
  • confessing, Jesus Christ, is Lord.

Contrast Bush’s selection of art with that of Obama’s choice….

Egg of Power The wooden sculpture – The Egg of Power – that Barack Obama has brought into the Oval Office combines African tribal tradition with a poignant message.

Obtained on a 2006 visit to his ancestral Kenya, the “Egg of Power” symbolizes the fragility of chiefly power: According to an ancient proverb, power is like an egg; if it’s held too tightly, it breaks, and if it’s held too loosely, it will slip from grasp.

Art has always been an integral part of African life, and wood carvings are expressions of power and ritual in the life of the tribe.

As the Bible says, some trust in chariots, some in horses, (Psalm 20: 7-8), while others, it appears, receive inspiration from an “Egg of Power” from which “poignant” belly-button-staring godless messages gives them wisdom and encouragement. The thought of someone leading the United States of America, inspired by tribal chief drivel, (Romans 11:18) from a country that is neither historically based on a republic, or on Judeo-Christian beliefs, is abhorrent.

Obama denies “the uniqueness of Christ and of hell”, detailed in a Cal Thomas article which calls a spade a spade, laying out in clear language, why Barack Hussein Obama is a false prophet.

Thomas states that, Obama is better at biblical language and imagery than any Democrat in modern times. He certainly beats Howard Dean, now the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, who once offered Job as his favorite New Testament book. This is cynical manipulation of the devout and it is no better when Democrats do it than when Republicans use religious language for partisan advantage. The Bible warns false prophets will be successful – Mat 24:11-12.

Obama has made declarations that he is a committed Christian, but so far, it appears the best verse to explain The One’s theology is James 2:19. Excerpts from the Cal Thomas article, using Obama’s own words describing his faith, show him to be without knowledge, Jer 51:17, not a Prov 19:21 man:

  • “I believe there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people.”

This denies John 14:16 and is not “change”, but instead, the same-old, same-old New Age religion. A great article is here, “Obama Believes Many Paths”.

  • Obama, according to a report, thinks that “all people of faith — Christians, Jews, Muslims, animists, everyone — know the same God”.

This is called Pluralism which is relativism that teaches there is no one truth. The Lord says: James 2:19

  • According to Obama, “The difficult thing about any religion, including Christianity, is that at some level there is a call to evangelize and proselytize. There’s the belief, certainly in some quarters, that if people haven’t embraced Jesus Christ as their personal savior, they’re going to hell.”

Again, pluralism, in this case stating that God is ultimately unknowable, yet another lie. The Lord says: Joshua 24:15

  • Obama again: “I don’t presume to have knowledge of what happens after I die. When I tuck in my daughters at night and I feel like I’ve been a good father to them, and I see that I am transferring values that I got from my mother and that they’re kind people and that they’re honest people, and they’re curious people, that’s a little piece of heaven.”

The Lord says: Acts 16:30-33, that there is nothing new under the sun, Eccl 1:9-14, as well as Prov 14:12.

In all of this, it is apparent Obama is too easily satisfied with his own “wisdom” (Prov 14:12) – that he is, in fact, in rebellion against the Lord – his attitude of spiritual indifference common to people across America (Isa 30:9).

“We The People” of Jesus Christ, have a dual citizenship (Phil 3:20), outlined in an article Selecting Those Who Shall Represent Us

We become citizens of a kingdom not of this world. Yet, as God has ordained, we continue to invoke civil authority to uphold our physical liberty and to secure our public safety (Rom 13:6,7). Thus, we must properly share in the responsibility of maintaining a public order in which we may be free to worship God, to serve Him, and to propagate the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Mt 28:19,20) Our citizenship duties are important to both our Christian witness and our physical well-being. Our responsibilities to participate in the selection of those who will represent us in civil government take on added significance. While some may concern themselves only with civil liberty, Christians must seek both religious (spiritual) and civil (physical) freedom. History testifies that when Christians neglect such governmental responsibilities, those who deny God fill the public void and invade the private domain. To paraphrase the Christian statesman, Edmund Burke, the penalty the godly pay for doing nothing is to be ruled by the ungodly. It is true that you cannot legislate evil out of the world, but by an impartial, rigorous justice you can make it too costly to practice … and by wise and Christian legislation you may limit its reach and remove its temptations and for this, in its most perfect measure, and to our utmost ability, the God of righteousness holds every man responsible.

God help us, for we are now going to find out what it is like to be ruled by the ungodly. Barack Hussein Obama may well have persevered, winning the race in his bid for the office of President of the United States, but it appears, he will lose the most important race (1 Cor 9:24) – the race towards eternity. And just as churches and Christian families suffer for lack of Godly leadership, so, too, will those of this nation suffer, for our lack of leadership and discernment. God will not be mocked.
