Storm Images

I gathered together a few of the December 11th ice storm images, experimenting with Picasa’s (free from Google!) new movie-making feature. It’s low-end in its tools, and the loss of resolution, once the movie converts, is greatly noticeable, but still, it’s a fun way to make a quick movie.

Prior to the ice storm, the ground was plain brown – not a speck of snow in sight, so any white appearing on these images is all from ice. As common as ice storms are on the East Coast, there’s no adequate way to describe the damage done by a large one like this that packs concentrated ice and howling wind into a few hours. Most of the ice was melted by the sun, a few days after the storm, but temperatures continued to hover near zero at night, only reaching mid-teens during the day, making heat the priority.
