Live Streaming Folk

Go away from my window
leave at your own chosen speed
I’m not the one you want babe,
I’m not the one you need….
You say you’re looking for someone
Who is never weak but always strong
to protect you and defend you
well, whether you are right or wrong
someone to open each and every door
but it ain’t me Babe,
no no no it ain’t me
it ain’t me you’re looking for, Babe….

Bob Dylan…....Judy Collins…how dreary my teen years would have been without their voices and amazing guitar playing….

My daughter stares in amazement at my old LP’s, stumbling over some of the names….”Linda Ronst…sta….whatever and the Painted Ponies, and Bonnie Raitt, hey, Mom! She was alive back then? And you still like her now?? And look, here’s Joni Mitchell the big yellow taxi lady. What’s your favorite song from her?.....”

One of these days, I’ll blow the dust off and listen. There’s a big part of me that doesn’t want to. For my daughter, history took forever to happen. For me, it was only yesterday and there’s still too big a part of my heart tied up in lyrics of love and heartache….

Nah. That’s not it. Who wants to listen to those old LP’s with their thumps, bumps, scratches and narrow EQ. I’m too many audio generations removed, spoiled by awesome sound quality.

My little harman/kardon speakers hooked up to my PC throbs with life above and beyond anything I owned those many years ago. Well, with the exception of a boyfriend’s 8-track system in his Daddy’s Eldorado Caddy, but that’s another blog….

My favorite technology? Live streaming. How cool is that. Hot, muggy Sunday afternoon in New Hampshire, listening to live-streaming blues, folk and acoustic – generations of timeless music syncopating through space from Miami….

A few of my favorite blues, folks, acoustic LIVE streaming programs –
WLRN – Folk & Acoustic Music Sundays at 2pm EST (Florida) http://www.wlrn.org/radio/folkacoustic/

WPR – Wisconsin Public Radio; the Simply Folk with Judy Rose program; This HAS to be the very best – has been on the air since 1979 – for sheer variety not limited to American folk. If you were a 9-year-old you’d say, “that’s some strange stuff, Mama”. And if you were her Mama you’d respond, “But how many 9-year-olds can say they’ve listened to a Tibetan herding song?”. Eye roll. Sundays 5-8pm CST. Don’t miss their playlists. http://www.wpr.org/simplyfolk/ program

Folk Alley – 89.7 WKSU, Kent, Ohio; Be still my heart. 24-Hour Listening. All Folk All The Time. It requires registration (free). They’re a fixture on your RealPlayer under “radio – folk” or stream through their website: http://www.folkalley.com/

The Acoustic Cafe – This is a syndicated show and if it isn’t playing a station near you, go directly to their site anytime after 10am on Saturday morning, listen to the music free. http://www.mlive.com/cafe/

The Ballad Tree website has an extensive listing of other live-streaming folk/blue/acoustic stations, lyrics, critiques – these folks take their folk seriously. http://www.balladtree.com/links/webcasts.htm

...a lover for your life and nothing
but it ain’t me babe,
no no no it ain’t me babe
it ain’t me you’re looking for, Babe….

Sing it Bobby…...
